If we look at our own naked body in a full length mirror, one thing will immediately come to mind for most of us. We are fat. The fat that we notice is usually not generalised fat distributed over the whole body, but usually over specific areas that we feel do not conform to what we consider the ideal image of our body parts. Thus we have fat cheeks, fat buttocks, fat abdomen, muffin tops (love handles), saddle breeches, fat arms and thick thighs, to name but a few problem areas. These may have been there for years, coming on insidiously and slowly but surely increasing in size with regular indiscriminate high calorie good eating and lack of exercise.

Getting rid of these problem areas, however, is not a simple matter of reversing the process of fat accumulation via dieting and exercise. The major challenge that we face is how to get rid
of the fat that we have accumulated in specific problem areas, fat that has accumulated so
easily with no conscious effort on our part. It is a known problem that when we lose weight, we lose it all over the body, and not just in the specific body parts that bug us such as a big
belly, or big fat buttocks. This would not be so difficult a problem to solve if certain body
parts whose size we wish to maintain did not look so good with that extra fat, whether it was
originally there or whether it came on with a general increase in body fat. The most obvious of these areas is the breast size, and in some cultures, the buttock size. Losing fat here as part of a generalized fat loss program is a definite no-no, as this makes the person feel less attractive to members of the opposite sex.

Thus we need a solution that gets rid of unsightly fat only in problem areas. This solution is
seen in the form of liposuction, often referred to as lyposuction.

What is liposuction then?
Liposuction (lyposuction) is a process by which targeted areas of fat under the skin are removed by means of a suction mechanism. This technic is also known as suction lipectomy or lipoplasty.

It is important to note that liposuction or lyposuction is indicated only for fat under the skin. As one puts on weight there is also an increase in visceral fat, that is fat in the abdominal viscera around the intestines and the abdominal organs such as the liver. This fat cannot be removed by liposuction.

What areas are treatable with liposuction?
As mentioned earlier, subcutaneous fat is targeted, that is, fat under the skin.

The areas usually treated by liposuction, sometimes in addition to surgery to remove the excess loose skin that may result after the liposuction procedure, are:
abdomen
waist (muffin tops, love handles)
buttocks
hips and thighs
saddle breeches
arms
breasts
face
neck

The areas of the body most commonly treated by liposuction are:
in men, abdomen and love handles
in women, abdomen and thighs

It is estimated that the most common plastic surgery procedure done annually is liposuction.
Lyposuction is performed by insertion of a hollow tube with multiple holes on the shaft, known
as a cannula, through a small incision in the skin of an affected area under general anesthetic
or local anesthetic, with the application of a suction force as the tube is moved in and out of
the fat under the skin. Usually local anesthetic is used in liposuction, making this a painless
procedure.

The most common liposuction procedure is known as tumescent liposuction. In this procedure the fat deposit under the skin is infused with a relatively large volume of saline to which is added a local anesthetic (usually lignocaine) as well as a vasoconstrictor (usually epinephrine, a substance to cause the blood vessels around the area to temporarily narrow down, thus giving rise to less bleeding). This large volume of fluid creates more space within the fat area and allows for easier movement of the cannula. After the procedure has been performed to satisfaction and the required amount of fat has been sucked out, the cannula is removed and a compression garment is worn for 2 to 4 weeks in order to keep the shape and to prevent re-accumulation of fluid in the affected area.

Recovery from the procedure is relatively fast, and patients can return to work within 2 days to a week. Normal physical activity, however, may be delayed till another 2 weeks or so, depending on the procedure.

Cost of liposculpture these days can average out well in the thousands of dollars in most surgical clinic’s, which is why some people may shy away from the procedure. However, Many positive responses from people across the United States who have had liposculpture prove that the cost is worth the payment.

The average person does not need to get an entire body work-over, but instead opt for individual body parts to be worked on. This is an effective, safe, and painless procedure, and it’s perfect for cutting away excess fat from areas such as the abdomen, hips, waist, thighs, buttocks, knees, arms, and the face and neck. Some may question if they really need a liposculpture to help improve their physical appearance. Many plastic surgeons wholeheartedly agree that the process is quick and simple, yielding fast, and most importantly, noticeable, results.

The cost of maintaining a healthy and strict diet, subscribing to a gym membership, and even hiring a personal trainer can require a large time investment, and with uncertain results, one could never be sure if they will gain any improvement. In the long run, this can sum up to a hefty cost, most likely averaging more than a quick and painless liposculpture. This is why this procedure is most highly regarded as a more permanent and much more effective substitute for diet and exercise. It not only helps those who have had trouble in the past losing weight, but also those who have no time to take out of their busy lives to get in shape.

Each plastic surgeon has a set standard of excellence that can be seen through their amazing results, year after year. Not only do they have years of experience, but their tools are state of the art. Technology is evolving rapidly, producing sophisticated machines capable of the most intricate and delicate operations, which is utilized in clinics all across America. An advanced technique called the topographic mapping technique is normally used prior to the procedure as a highly effective and accurate way of targeting the problem areas, making precision marking that garner visually pleasing results. liposculpture may not be too easy on the wallet, but as an investment, it is the only safe and secure procedure that is faster and more effective than traditional weight loss methods.
